At the Student Union of Lackawanna College, the Scranton Knights (9-3, 4-0) secured a solid 58-48 victory over the West Scranton Invaders (2-10, 0-4) in a Lackawanna League Division I boys basketball clash on Thursday night.

Junior guard Tony Battaglia was the standout performer for Scranton, lighting up the scoreboard with 20 points, including six big time three-pointers. Battaglia’s sharpshooting gave the Knights an edge, especially during a strong first and third quarter where they outscored the Invaders 19-10 and 16-9, respectively. Senior center Pedro Lugo contributed 14 points, which included a 2 handed rim-rocking contested dunk in 4th quarter.  Lugo anchored the Knights in the paint with steady inside play all night.

For the Invaders, senior Nathan Schimelfenig led the charge with an impressive 18 points, including three bombs from beyond the arc. Tisean Garrison added seven points and a three-pointer, while Fabian Ortiz chipped in with five points. Despite their efforts, the Invaders couldn’t overcome Scranton's defensive pressure and sharp shooting from long range.

Both teams showed flashes of brilliance, with West Scranton edging Scranton in three-point goals (8-7). However, Scranton's dominance in field goals (23-19) and consistency at the free throw line (5-2) made the difference.

The Knights remain undefeated in league play and face off against the Buchorns Monday night, while the Invaders look to rebound next week vs North Pocono.
