SUSQUEHANNA, PA – The Susquehanna Sabers put on a show Friday night, both on and off the court, in their annual Coaches vs. Cancer game, securing a dominant 84-53 victory over Forest City at Susquehanna Community High School. The evening was filled with emotion, remembrance, and a community-wide commitment to raising cancer awareness.
A Night of Purpose and Perseverance
Event coordinator Joanna Soden organized an unforgettable night, featuring raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and concessions, all benefiting cancer research. The most powerful moment of the evening came during the Survivor Walk, where cancer survivors and their families took a lap around the gym, embraced by the applause and support of the crowd.
Adding to the night’s inspiration, guest speaker Nickie Hegarty, a cancer survivor, shared her heartfelt journey of resilience and hope. Meanwhile, Principal Richard Emmons, a fellow cancer survivor, issued a special challenge to the student body: if they meet the fundraising goal, he will shave his head and grow a mustache.
On the Court: A Three-Point Barrage
The Sabers caught fire from beyond the arc, draining 12 three-pointers as a team to fuel their high-powered offense.
For Forest City, Max Urbas led the team with 19 points, while TJ Collins added 14.
Final Score:
Susquehanna 84, Forest City 53
With a lights-out shooting performance and a community-driven mission, the Sabers (5-13, 2-8) turned the Coaches vs. Cancer game into more than just a victory—it was a night of unity, remembrance, and strength.
