On a picture-perfect Thursday afternoon, the softball diamond turned into a battlefield as unranked Dallas stunned the No. 1 ranked Tunkhannock Tigers in a nail-biting 6–5 victory. It was a game filled with momentum swings, clutch hits, and a resilient Mountaineer squad that refused to back down.

Dallas came out strong, plating two runs in the first inning and building a 6–2 lead by the fourth. Tunkhannock, known for their explosive offense and dominant record, chipped away inning by inning—scoring a run in each of the final four frames. But the Tigers’ late surge fell just short.

Sophia Maier was electric at the top of the Dallas lineup, going 3-for-4 and scoring two runs. Sydney Haydu continued her strong season, collecting two hits and driving in a run. Nina Barrouk delivered in the circle and at the plate—striking out eight while throwing a complete game and adding a two-RBI single to help her cause.

Tunkhannock’s Addisyn Waterman stayed hot with a 3-for-4 performance and three runs scored, while Erin Van Ness drove in three runs on three hits to keep the Tigers in the fight. Despite the loss, McKenzie Hannon struck out 10 batters across six innings.

This game marks a signature win for Dallas and a wake-up call for a Tunkhannock team that had dominated opponents all season. With playoff implications looming, this upset could shake up the Wyoming Valley Conference standings and re-energize the Mountaineers as a team to watch down the stretch.
