WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Stevenson University delivered a commanding performance Friday night, overwhelming Misericordia 11–1 in a road victory marked by relentless pressure, special-teams dominance, and multi-point efforts throughout the lineup.
From the opening puck drop, the Mustangs controlled the pace, striking early and often while suffocating Misericordia’s attempts to generate sustained offense.
Stevenson wasted no time establishing momentum. At 2:45, Blake Benson opened the scoring, finishing a setup from Caden Smith and John Musella to give the Mustangs a 1–0 lead.
Just five minutes later, the floodgates opened. At 7:38, Jack Karlsson converted a feed from Matt Yeager and Brandon Hemmer, and only five seconds after the ensuing faceoff, Connor MacDonell buried another quick-strike opportunity off a pass from Hemmer to make it 3–0.
Special teams added to the damage. On the power play at 11:12, John Musella scored his first of three on the night, assisted by Benson and Karlsson.
Musella struck again before the period ended—this time short-handed and unassisted at 17:58—as Stevenson carried a dominant 5–0 lead into the first intermission.
Stevenson continued rolling early in the second. At 5:24, Benson notched his second goal of the game, finishing a feed from Jack Costabile to push the lead to 6–0.
Misericordia finally broke through on a power-play opportunity at 11:52, when Patrick Toomey scored off assists from William Moran and Zachary Micciche.
But the Mustangs answered on a power play of their own. At 16:02, Musella completed his hat trick—his second special-teams goal of the night—off assists from Benson and Karlsson to extend the advantage to 7–1.
The Mustangs kept their foot on the gas in the final period, adding four more goals.
At 3:38, Aiden Lindley scored off a setup from MacDonell to make it 8–1.
Yeager added an unassisted marker at 7:57, further padding the lead.
In the closing minutes, Greg Spitznagel struck twice in quick succession—both unassisted—at 12:36 and 13:00, sealing the 11–1 victory.
Stevenson showcased depth, speed, and execution across all phases of the game. With a hat trick from John Musella, multi-goal efforts from Benson and Spitznagel, and contributions up and down the roster, the Mustangs left Wilkes-Barre with one of their most dominant wins of the season.
Misericordia, despite a strong effort and a power-play tally from Toomey, struggled to contain Stevenson’s pace and pressure.
The Mustangs move forward with momentum, while Misericordia will look to regroup as conference play continues.
