Sportzwire’s Athlete of the Week: Lucas LoPresto - Pittston Area’s Record-Breaking Star

When you first meet Lucas LoPresto, there’s a gentleness in his voice...humble, thoughtful, almost quiet. But don’t let that fool you. On the football field, he’s anything but gentle.

The Pittston Area junior has become an unstoppable force under the Friday night lights, and his performance this past weekend etched his name in school history, not once, not twice, but three times. LoPresto shattered three receiving records in one night, officially taking his place among the greats who came before him.

He now holds the Pittston Area records for most career receiving yards (1,666 and counting), most receiving touchdowns (19), and most receptions (109) - all of which were previously held by the talented Krawczyk brothers, Kevin and Andrew.

“I remember watching Kevin and Andrew play when I was younger,” Lucas said during our interview. “They really inspired me. They were amazing players.”

It’s clear the moment isn’t lost on him, the respect, the legacy, the history. And now, Lucas is making some history of his own.

A Love for Football and His Team

Lucas is a true multi-sport athlete having played football, baseball, basketball, and track, but when asked about his favorite, he doesn’t hesitate.

“Football,” he said. “It’s a team game where you have to rely on your brothers. It’s fun running, scoring touchdowns. I just love the atmosphere of the Friday Night Lights.”

That passion began early, but with a twist. While Lucas now dominates on the gridiron, he actually started with flag football in Scranton, as his parents wanted to hold off on tackle until he was older. Tackle football finally came in 7th grade, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Now, as a wide receiver and defensive back, Lucas has earned All-Conference and All-District honors in both 9th and 10th grade as a WR and as an Athlete (for his dynamic punt/kick return abilities).

Championship Mindset

This season, Lucas has helped lead Pittston Area to the WVC Division I Conference title. The team currently holds the #1 seed and is eyeing a District Championship and maybe more.

“We want to win Districts and make a run in States,” Lucas said. “That’s the goal. We’ve worked so hard to get here.”

There’s also a familiar rivalry looming.

“One of my goals this season is to beat Wyoming Area,” he said. That game is always circled, but with the way Lucas and his team are playing, he’s got good reason to be confident.

He’s also quick to credit his coach: “Coach Russick - it’s his first year, and he’s doing amazing.”

Athletic Excellence Across the Board

Once football season wraps, Lucas shifts his focus to basketball, where his team was District runner-up last year. In the spring, it’s track and field, where Lucas shines in javelin, triple jump, long jump, and the 4x100 relay.

He’s already earned bronze in javelin at Districts in both 9th and 10th grade, and silver in the triple jump as a freshman. A knee injury kept him out of that event last year, but Lucas remains one of Pittston Area’s top track athletes.

More Than Just an Athlete

Beyond the field, court, and track, Lucas is a standout in the classroom. With a 3.9 GPA, he’s an Honors with Distinction student, a member of the National Honor Society, and still finds time to volunteer at church events with his mom.

With his sights set on college football, Lucas mentioned the PSAC as a likely path, with Lock Haven currently leading the way.

And it’s no surprise that excellence runs in the family. Lucas’s father, Carmen LoPresto, was a standout running back at Wilkes University, where he earned a spot in their Hall of Fame.

The Legacy Continues

With another year of high school still to go, Lucas LoPresto’s story is far from finished. But already, he’s made his mark on the field, in the classroom, and in the hearts of his teammates and coaches.

Gentle off the field. A beast on it. That’s the LoPresto way.

Congratulations to Lucas LoPresto, Sportzwire’s Athlete of the Week!
