You asked for it, and now we’re delivering! SportzWire is proud to announce our very first Wired Athlete of the Week, powered by Envy Electrical. This new feature shines a spotlight on the student-athletes in our region who are wired right to make an impact both on and off the field.

Our debut recipient sets the bar high. Congratulations to Lyla Jones, a senior captain of the North Pocono Trojans women’s golf team.

Lighting up the Leaderboard

Nominated by her coach, Kevin Nardella, Lyla is a proven force on the course. She’s already a 2x All-Region selection and was named 2024 Golfer of the Year as a junior. This fall, she added to her impressive résumé by capturing the individual title at the Ann Marie Simon Tournament, her second straight year claiming first place while leading her fellow Trojans to a runner-up team finish with a score of 80.

She also earned medalist honors against Scranton Prep and Honesdale at Elmhurst Country Club, and shot a 77 in the preseason Happy Valley Tournament, finishing in the top three. Lyla has been North Pocono’s medalist in every event this season, cementing her reputation as one of the top golfers in school history and our Region.

A True Leader

But Lyla’s impact isn’t just in the scorebook. As a senior captain, she’s the heartbeat of her team, attending every practice, pushing herself through every drill, and inspiring teammates to match her dedication. Off the course, she is an active volunteer and a shining example of what it means to be a full member of the Trojans program.

Her coach notes her uncanny ability to capitalize on momentum, turning strong drives into pinpoint irons, or backing up great shots with clutch birdie putts. Even more importantly, she plays for the team first, knowing that chasing team goals fuels both collective and individual success.

Why She Stands Apart

What truly sets Lyla apart is her pure love of the game. While many athletes are driven by accolades or college ambitions, Lyla thrives because she simply loves golf. Surrounded by a family that shares her passion, she’s found the perfect blend of focus, fun, and fire that has made her one of the most decorated players in the region.

Rapid Fire with Lyla Jones

To kick off our Athlete of the Week series, we put Lyla through a quick Q&A so fans can get to know her beyond the course:

Favorite thing to do outside of golf?

“I love going to the beach. If I’m not golfing, I’m planning a beach trip!”

Favorite food?

“I really like pizza, but I also love Chick-fil-A fries.”

Other sports or activities?

“I also play lacrosse. Friends talked me into trying out freshman year. The first time I ever touched a lacrosse stick was at the first practice, and I’ve really grown to love the sport.”

Future plans beyond high school?

“I plan to play golf at the collegiate level. I’m still deciding where I’d fit best. I’m very indecisive about my major, but I know I want to play golf.”

Favorite subject in school?

“Biology or human physiology. I always found them interesting and enjoyed learning about the human body.”

Favorite music/artist?

“I don’t really have a favorite—my playlist is all over the place—but definitely some country and pop in there.”

Favorite movie of all time?

“The Notebook or Happy Gilmore.”

Congratulations, Lyla Jones, on being SportzWire’s first 'Wired' Athlete of the Week! ⚡
