Athlete of the Week: Kevin Vincent – Legacy in Motion

Powered by Envy Electrical - Do it right, not twice!

For Holy Cross senior Kevin Vincent, the past two weeks have been nothing short of electric. The dual-sport standout has taken the football field by storm with back-to-back dominant performances, while continuing to shine off the field with the same intensity and purpose.

"It's been a crazy two weeks!" Kevin said with a grin, and that might be putting it lightly.

Last week against Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, Vincent ran wild with 11 carries for 219 yards, added an 18-yard reception, and found the end zone five times. This past weekend, in a highly anticipated rivalry matchup against Holy Redeemer, he upped the ante: 28 carries for 353 yards, a 19-yard reception, and yet another five-touchdown performance. The surge has come as he steps into a full-time running back role, one he wasn’t expecting until injuries on the team opened the door.

“I threw on the guardian cap even though it looks a little funky,” he joked, referencing the padded helmet cover designed for extra safety. Funky or not, it’s working.

Though primarily a wide receiver and utility player on offense, filling in at tight end and fullback as needed, Vincent has adapted quickly to being the feature back.

On defense, he plays with the same tenacity, splitting time between linebacker and defensive end. He’s been playing football “most all his life,” and as an only child, the game gave him more than just stats. “It gave me an outlet to get a brotherhood experience,” he said, “and get that fight out of me.”

That passion has not gone unnoticed. He earned Honorable Mention honors at linebacker both his sophomore and junior seasons, and also picked up the same recognition at running back last year. The team reached the Conference Finals last season, a mark Vincent and the Crusaders hope to build upon this fall.

But if you ask Kevin what his main sport is, he won’t hesitate to say Track and Field.

“It’s something where I can’t blame anyone else but me,” he explained. “I have to hold myself accountable, my success depends on me, how much training I put into it.”

That mindset has fueled major success in the spring season. Vincent started his track career in 8th grade at North Pocono, initially competing in hurdles and long jump. By year’s end, he transitioned into triple jump and high jump, two events where he has since thrived.

At Holy Cross, Kevin helped lead the Crusaders to back-to-back Lackawanna League Championships, and individually he has been dominant: first place in triple jump at both the league and district levels in his sophomore and junior years.

His sophomore campaign came with adversity, he battled through an injury during Districts to secure a first-place finish, though it hampered his performance at States. Still, he returned stronger as a junior, again taking first at Districts and earning 7th place at States in the triple jump.

Off the field, Vincent is just as dedicated. A four-year high honors student with a GPA above 4.0, he is a member of the National Honor Society, Tomorrow’s Leaders of Today, and serves on the Student Advisory Council for Jr. Leadership NEPA. His commitment to service is evident, he’s logged over 300 hours of community service, including an impactful week serving the homeless population of Philadelphia where he lived on-site and volunteered hands-on.

His parents have been, as he puts it, “a huge driving force.” After a tough baseball season years ago, they encouraged him to join track to stay in shape and sharpen his focus for football, clearly, the move paid off.

When asked about who inspires him most, Kevin didn’t hesitate. His voice softened as he said, “My uncle Matt Caputo.” Though he never met him, Kevin knows the legacy well. Like Kevin, Matt didn’t get a chance to run the ball until his senior year, then went on to rush for over 1,000 yards. Matt was a standout at Bishop O’Hara, now Holy Cross, and the resemblance, both in spirit and style, has not gone unnoticed.

“People tell me I look like him,” Kevin said with pride, knowing that his own late-season rise at running back is more than just coincidence. It’s legacy.

Whether sprinting down the sideline or soaring through the air in the triple jump pit, Kevin Vincent represents what it means to be a Crusader, driven, humble, and always ready for the next challenge.

Congratulations, Kevin! We’re proud to shine the light on you this week as our Athlete of the Week. Your hard work, leadership, and dedication on and off the field truly set you apart.
