Sportzwire 'Wired' Athlete of the Week: Isaac Ryon

This week’s Sportzwire ‘Wired’ Athlete of the Week is someone who defines versatility, work ethic, and heart — Lackawanna Trail senior Isaac Ryon.

Isaac is the kind of athlete every coach dreams of...gritty, dependable, multi-talented, and humble. A three-sport standout, Isaac shines on the football field, wrestling mat, and baseball diamond. But if you ask him, football is where his heart is. “Football is my favorite sport,” Isaac said. “I like the energy it brings.”

And bring the energy he does.

This past weekend, in a standout performance against Mid Valley, Isaac put together one of the most complete games in recent memory. The senior star racked up 308 rushing yards on 26 carries, 55 receiving yards on three receptions, two interceptions, a field goal, and for the first time in his career, added 45 passing yards to his stat sheet.

Talk about a well-rounded performance. Offense, defense, and special teams, Isaac impacted every phase of the game.

Coming off a stellar junior season where he totaled over 1,700 yards and was named 1st Team All-State at running back, Isaac is continuing his dominance this year with nearly 950 yards already on the ground. His role has evolved since he first cracked the varsity lineup as a freshman, starting at cornerback and backing up at running back. Now, he's the heart of the team playing both RB and Free Safety, and rarely leaving the field.

Despite all the individual accolades, Isaac is quick to shine the spotlight elsewhere, particularly on his family. “No matter where we play, they always show up,” he said of his mom, dad, and two sisters. “My parents have always pushed me to be my best.”

That support system fuels his drive. His team goal is to win states, while his personal goal is simple but powerful: “Play the best I can and leave it all on the field.”

His love for the game also draws inspiration from his favorite pro athlete, Marshawn Lynch. “I love the way he ran the ball,” Isaac said.

It’s clear he’s learned a thing or two from watching “Beast Mode,” using that same aggressive, relentless style to carve through defenses every week.

But Isaac is far from a one-sport athlete.

He picked up wrestling in 9th grade, thanks to encouragement from friends and teammates and hasn’t looked back. The physicality and discipline of wrestling, he says, have helped him tremendously in football. And his results speak for themselves:

  • 9th Grade – 4th at Districts, Regional qualifier

  • 10th Grade – 2nd at Districts, Regional qualifier

  • 11th Grade – 3rd at Districts

Now in his senior season, his goal is simple: win Districts and make it out of Regionals.

On the diamond, Isaac’s baseball story started like many, with T-ball. His dad coached him at times along the way, and the joy of playing with friends kept him in the game. “I always had fun with the game,” Isaac said. “My friends playing made me want to play.”

What stands out most about Isaac isn’t just the stat lines or the trophies, it’s his character. He’s consistently made High Honors, and he gives back to the community that raised him. Whether it’s volunteering at athletic camps and youth games, helping with the Northern Lackawanna Food Share, the Fleetville Fire Company of Benton Township, Christy Matthewson Little League, or the Lackawanna Trail Junior Lions Football, Isaac lives by example.

He also gives major credit to his coaches. “All my coaches have inspired and encouraged me,” he said. “Especially my football coaches, they’ve created a bond with their players.”

That bond is mutual. Isaac Ryon isn’t just a star athlete, he’s a scholar, a leader, a role model, and a community servant. He’s everything the Sportzwire ‘Wired’ Athlete of the Week should be.

Congratulations, Isaac, we’re proud to shine the light on you this week. A special thank you to our partners at Envy Electrical for helping us showcase these athletes week in and week out, all year long.
