Week 8 across District 2 brought everything that makes high school football unforgettable — record-breaking performances, homecoming celebrations, and statement wins that turned local athletes into headlines. From Wilkes-Barre’s air assault to Tunkhannock’s late heroics, the lights burned bright once again across NEPA as SportzWire’s featured players and programs delivered in the clutch.
Electric Performance of the Week

Wilkes-Barre Area quarterback Jake Howe etched his name into the Wyoming Valley Conference record books in the Battle of the Bridge. Leading the Wolfpack to a dominant 49–0 victory over Valley West, Howe went 14-of-21 for 192 yards and 4 touchdowns, while adding 46 yards rushing.
With those four scores, Howe became the WVC’s all-time passing touchdown leader with 66 career TDs, surpassing Williamsport standout Isaiah Hankins’ record of 64. A historic night for one of District 2’s elite - electric, efficient, and unstoppable.

Cold As Ice Player of the Week

When Tunkhannock needed composure late, freshman Moses Montero delivered. Trailing Montrose 8–7 with under five minutes left, Montero broke free for the go-ahead touchdown, then followed with the two-point conversion to secure the Tigers’ 15–10 comeback win.
A late safety closed out the contest, but it was Montero’s cold-blooded poise under pressure that made the difference. Calm, clutch, and composed - the freshman Tiger showed he’s built for the moment.

House Call of the Week
Built strong by Green Rhino Roofing & Siding
If there was ever a definition of “house call,” Berwick’s Ty Wilkerson wrote it Friday night. The senior running back erupted for 390 yards and five touchdowns on 24 carries in a 63–19 rout of Williamsport, breaking his own school rushing record against the same team he set it against last season.
Wilkerson’s scoring runs of 47, 65, 60, 32, and 45 yards were all bursts of power and precision. With nearly 2,000 rushing yards on the season, he’s firmly atop the District 2 leaderboard - efficient, explosive, and built different.

Drip of the Week

Old Forge’s Chris Rasmus brought both meaning and momentum to his game-day look. In the Blue Devils’ win over Holy Cross, Rasmus sported a full Breast Cancer Awareness fit - pink gloves, towel, and accessories and backed it up with a touchdown run and six receptions for 69 yards and another score.
Recently, Rasmus made school history by breaking Chris Schuback’s all-time receptions record of 101, set back in 1996. For the senior, Week 8 was about more than fashion it was about legacy and purpose.

The Dunmore Bucks dominated West Scranton in Week 8, and Josh Dudick led the charge with a complete performance across all phases. Dudick caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Weston Yannone, rushed for 18 yards, and made his mark on defense with an interception, a blocked punt, a fumble recovery, and three tackles.
A full return on effort and impact, Dudick’s balanced night helped Dunmore roll to a 42–7 victory.

Pile Driver of the Week

The Hanover Area Hawkeyes offensive line earned the spotlight this week after paving the way for a 63–0 win over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech. The front five dominated from the first snap, helping the offense pile up 281 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while also allowing 231 passing yards and a score through the air.
It was a complete performance in the trenches -physical, disciplined, and relentless.

Halftime Highlight

Week 8’s halftime spotlight headed north to Susquehanna Community High School, where the Sabers’ homecoming celebration turned into a full showcase of spirit and sound. Fans packed the stands for a Saturday matchup against Lackawanna Trail, and the atmosphere was electric.
The cheer squad set the tone early, but the band stole the show with a performance that had the entire crowd buzzing, especially their powerful rendition of “Live and Let Die” by Guns N’ Roses, which left photographers and fans alike stunned.
Susquehanna proved that halftime isn’t a break it’s a performance.
