Sportzwire Athlete of the Week: KJ Coles - Pocono Mountain West
Sponsored by Envy Electrical
Soft-spoken and grounded, with a gentle calm that reflects both his leadership style and approach to life, KJ Coles is the kind of athlete who lets his game do the talking. This week, Sportzwire proudly recognizes Pocono Mountain West’s standout point guard as Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Envy Electrical.
Basketball has been part of KJ's life for as long as he can remember. He started playing the game at just five years old, and by the time he reached ninth grade, he had already earned the role of starting point guard—a position he has held ever since. For KJ, basketball has always been more than just competition.
“It’s a fun game to play,” he shared. “It brings so many opportunities. It’s something I love doing and feel like it can take me somewhere in life.”
That mindset has carried him to impressive heights, both individually and as a team leader. At Pocono Mountain West, KJ has been a key contributor to sustained success. He and his teammates captured a District Championship during his sophomore season, competed in multiple EPC Championships during his freshman and junior years, and advanced to the state tournament in both his ninth and tenth grade seasons.
KJ’s individual accolades are just as noteworthy. He has been named First Team All-EPC, Pocono Athlete of the Week, Lehigh Valley Athlete of the Week, Jeff Daly Tournament MVP, and Blue Ridge Athlete of the Week. During his junior season, he surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone, and this year he has already elevated his total to an impressive 1,555 points—an achievement that reflects consistency, dedication, and leadership.
His success has opened the door to the next chapter of his basketball journey. KJ recently committed to play at Kutztown University, a decision that felt right both on and off the court.
“It matched my personality,” he said. “I love the environment—it felt like home.”
Off the court, KJ is just as committed to growth and giving back. He is an honor roll student and actively involved in his community, volunteering with Toys for Tots, Pocono Mountain West Basketball Camps, and AthLife—a program started by his strength and conditioning coach, Coach Wile, that helps student-athletes become the best versions of themselves.
KJ is quick to credit those who have supported him along the way. He points to his family, his coaches—especially Coach Williams—and the entire Pocono Mountain West staff for encouraging and pushing him daily.
With his calm demeanor, strong character, and proven ability to lead, KJ Coles represents everything Sportzwire’s Athlete of the Week stands for. As he prepares for the next level at Kutztown University, one thing is clear: this is only the beginning of a journey built on passion, purpose, and opportunity.
