ALLENTOWN, PA — The Mid Valley Spartanettes left no doubt in Thursday’s PIAA Class 3A Quarterfinal, unleashing a relentless offensive attack and locking down defensively in a 13-2 run-rule victory over Nazareth Academy at DeSales University.
From the first pitch to the final out, it was all Mid Valley.
Sophomore ace Ava Hazelton commanded the game on both ends, tossing a five-inning gem with four strikeouts while sparking the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning. Natalie Hricenak followed suit with a base hit to plate another, and the momentum never left the Spartanettes’ dugout.
Senior catcher Mackenzie Adolfson delivered the big swing — a home run to left in the third — part of a two-hit, three-RBI day as she powered the heart of Mid Valley’s lineup. The Spartanettes added five more runs in the fifth, with key hits from Audrey Hasenzahl and Adolfson once again, helping put the game out of reach.
Mid Valley racked up 12 hits in total, with multi-hit performances from Abbey Mackey, Krista Cortazar, Hricenak, Hasenzahl, and Adolfson. Defensively, Elise Larson anchored the infield with six flawless chances, as the Spartanettes played error-free behind Hazelton’s steady presence in the circle.
With the win, Mid Valley advances to the PIAA 3A Semifinals, where they’ll face Pine Grove on Monday — site TBD.
