SHAMOKIN, Pa. — The Shamokin Indians came out swinging and never looked back on Saturday afternoon, defeating Hughesville 5-1 in a non-league baseball matchup.

Shamokin struck early, plating three runs in the first inning to quickly seize control. The Indians added insurance with a run in the third and another in the sixth to cap off a six-hit, five-run performance. The Indians tallied six hits and played clean defensively, committing no errors in the field.

Senior standout Rylan Price led the offensive charge, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate. Price roped a double, crossed the plate twice, and swiped a base to help fuel the Shamokin offense.

Joining him in the box score was Landon Kramer, who contributed a hit, a run scored, an RBI, and stole two bases. Hayden Karlovich also delivered, scoring twice and driving in a run while adding a hit and a stolen base to his stat line.

Hughesville's lone run came in the fifth inning, when Kyler Solomon doubled and later came around to score, spoiling Shamokin’s shutout bid. The Spartans finished with just one run and committed one error in the field.

Shamokin improves with the victory thanks to a well-rounded performance at the plate, on the basepaths, and in the field. Hughesville will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue to search for consistency on offense.
