SHIKELLAMY — September 5, 2025

Under the bright lights and a sea of yellow, Friday night’s matchup between Shamokin Area and Shikellamy High School was about more than football. The Shikellamy home opener was marked by a special “Yellow Out” to honor the memory of Alec Litchard, a local boy who tragically passed away from cancer last year. Fans from both schools united in a moving show of support for Alec’s family and the Alec’s Angels Foundation.

But once the whistles blew, Shamokin Area showed why they’re one of the hottest teams in the region right now, rolling to a dominant 52-21 victory and improving to 3-0 on the season.

Shamokin’s offensive engine was its powerful run game, racking up an eye-popping 292 rushing yards. Leading the way was senior running back Zakem Clinton, who was nearly unstoppable with 108 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries. Clinton also made his presence known on defense with a sack and a tackle, proving to be a key contributor on both sides of the ball.

Colin Steinhart also stood out, scoring two total touchdowns in a game that saw multiple players contributing to the scoreboard. The Indians have now rushed for at least 194 yards in four straight contests dating back to last season, and Friday night’s performance only reinforced their identity as a ground-and-pound force.

While the offense was grinding out yards, the Shamokin defense was busy wreaking havoc on the Shikellamy passing attack. The Indians intercepted four passes over the course of the game — one each from Ryan Bickert, Logan Steele, Colin Steinhart, and Dylan Fenix. Steele made the most of his turnover, returning it for a touchdown in a game-changing moment.

Shikellamy, now 2-1, struggled to find rhythm against the aggressive Shamokin defense and couldn’t recover from the early momentum shift.

Despite the loss, the night was a powerful testament to community strength. The "Yellow Out" tribute to Alec Litchard created a memorable and emotional atmosphere. Fans from both sidelines donned yellow, showing unity in remembrance and raising awareness for pediatric cancer through the Alec’s Angels Foundation.

With the win, Shamokin Area remains undefeated and looks to keep the streak alive when they face Jersey Shore next Friday at 7:00 p.m. That contest could be an offensive shootout, with both teams combining for over 840 yards in their last outings.

Shikellamy, now seeking to bounce back, will stay home to host Williamsport next Friday, also at 7:00 p.m. The Braves will be looking to regroup and channel the emotional energy from Friday’s tribute into a strong performance on their home turf.

Final Score:
Shamokin Area 52, Shikellamy 21

Records:
Shamokin Area (3-0)
Shikellamy (2-1)
