Holy Redeemer pulled off a thrilling comeback on Friday night, rallying late to edge out Elk Lake 3-2 in a classic pitchers’ duel.

For much of the game, runs were at a premium. Redeemer’s Nick Mazzarella kept his team in the fight, battling through six innings where he allowed just two earned runs on six hits while striking out two. Zach Schultz came on in relief to slam the door and secure the save.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the seventh, the Royals refused to back down. Alex Gordon delivered the game’s biggest moment, ripping a two-out single that cleared the bases and gave Holy Redeemer a stunning 3-2 lead.

Elk Lake struck first, scratching across a run in the opening inning on a groundout from Alden Felker. They added another in the fifth, but couldn’t fend off Redeemer’s late charge. Despite a strong start from Elk Lake’s Brayden Miller, who struck out seven over 6.2 innings, it wasn’t enough to hold off the Royals.

Gordon finished 2-for-4 with all three of Holy Redeemer’s RBIs, proving to be the hero of the night. Both teams showcased clean defense, each turning a double play and staying sharp in the field.

It was a gritty, resilient win for Holy Redeemer — a team that continues to show they can battle through adversity when it matters most.

Next up, the Royals will look to carry this momentum into Monday’s matchup against Tunkhannock
