Scranton Surges Past Valley West, Advances to 6A District 2 Final

Scranton, PA -- The No. 2 seed Lady Knights dominated the second half, pulling away from Wyoming Valley West for a 59-28 victory in the District 2 Class 6A semifinals on Friday night.
Chrissy Jacklinski led all scorers with 20 points, but it was Jaelyn Alers who stole the show in the second half. After going scoreless before the break, Alers erupted for 17 points, including three three-pointers, to fuel Scranton’s decisive run.
Scranton outshot Valley West from beyond the arc, knocking down six threes compared to Valley West’s three. Thalia Irizarry paced Valley West with 11 points, while Anya Richet added six points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort.
With the win, Scranton advances to the district final at Mohegan Arena on February 28, where they will face Hazleton, who cruised past Wilkes-Barre Area 71-24 in the other semifinal matchup.
