HAZLETON – Scranton Prep’s postseason run came to a tough end in the PIAA Class 4A second round, as Berks Catholic executed a defensive game plan to contain Packy Doherty and Brycen Martin, edging out the Cavaliers 51-47 at Hazleton Area High School.

Berks Catholic’s defensive intensity slowed down Prep’s top scorers, but Brody Martin led the Cavaliers with 15 points, while Packy Doherty added 14 and Brycen Martin finished with 11. Despite their efforts, Berks Catholic controlled the tempo and made timely plays to hold off Prep’s late push.

On the other end, Zach Suski and Kingston McKoy each scored 16 points, while Bryce Gumby contributed 12 to lead the Saints. Berks Catholic knocked down six three-pointers, compared to Prep’s five, and capitalized on defensive stops to seal the victory.

Scranton Prep fought until the final buzzer but fell just short of advancing. With the win, Berks Catholic moves on in the PIAA 4A state playoffs, while Prep’s strong season comes to an end.
