When Lake-Lehman and Wyoming Area take the field, it’s never just another game. It’s neighbors against neighbors, friends who grew up playing youth sports together suddenly squaring off under the lights, and two communities that pour their hearts into every pass, every save, and every goal.

These aren’t just two of the top programs in District 2 — they’re two of the top programs in the state, built on tradition, pride, and a relentless drive to compete at the highest level.

Last Year’s Heartbreaker

Ask anyone who was there — last year’s District Championship at Wyoming Valley West still lingers. Lake-Lehman came out flying, racing to a 2–0 lead and putting themselves on the brink of glory. But Wyoming Area refused to quit. One goal, then another, and suddenly the crowd was buzzing. When Lyla Rehill scored in overtime, sealing the comeback and the championship, it wasn’t just a victory — it was the kind of moment athletes dream about and communities talk about for years.

For Lehman, it was heartbreak. For Wyoming Area, pure joy. For fans, it was everything a rivalry game should be.

The Faces of This Year

This fall, it’s the athletes themselves who will carry the story forward.

  • Lake-Lehman leans on seniors like Olivia Oliver, Gracie James, and Ady Perlis, players who have grown up in the program and know what it means to wear black and gold. Add in the speed and skill of Sara Womach and Kate Hynick, and Lehman brings both talent and grit.

  • Wyoming Area counters with its own backbone of experience — Lucia and Ella Campenni, sisters who bring leadership and poise, along with Claudia Rehill, Shannon Kearns, and Talia Pizano, all capable of taking over a game.

For these athletes, September 8 isn’t just a date on the calendar. It’s a chance to add their own chapter to a rivalry they grew up watching.

A Tradition That Lasts

What makes this matchup even more special is how it keeps giving back. Alumni from both sides — Isabella Decesaris from Lehman (Old Dominion), and Juliana Gonzalez (Wagner) and Lyla Rehill (Rutgers) from Wyoming Area — show today’s players what’s possible. Younger kids in the stands see their heroes and think, that could be me someday.

That’s the beauty of this rivalry: it’s bigger than a single game. It’s a tradition passed down, season after season.

September 8: More Than a Game

When Lehman and Wyoming Area line up on September 8 at Wyoming Area, it won’t just be about the scoreboard. It’ll be about pride, memories, and the bond between two communities that love their teams.

For the players, it’s a chance to prove themselves. For the coaches, it’s another test in programs defined by high standards. And for the fans, it’s a reminder of why this rivalry matters so much.

Because in District 2 field hockey — and across the state — few games bring the heart, history, and human element quite like Lehman vs. Wyoming Area.
