In a dominant display of postseason baseball, the Mount Carmel Red Tornadoes swept past the Troy Trojans with a commanding 4-0 victory in the PIAA District IV Class 3A semi-final matchup today. Despite managing just four hits, the Red Tornadoes capitalized on key moments and took full advantage of Troy’s three defensive errors to secure the shutout.
The game was defined by a masterful performance on the mound from Mount Carmel ace Drew Yagodzinskie. The right-hander delivered a complete game shutout, striking out eight batters over seven innings. Yagodzinskie's control and poise under pressure were instrumental in keeping the Trojans off the scoreboard — and off the hit column entirely — as Troy failed to register a single base hit.
Offensively, Mount Carmel made the most of their opportunities. Walker McGinley led the charge with a hit and two runs scored. Clarke Cartright added a hit and crossed the plate once. Additional hits came from Jon Morgante and Jason Klokis, with Klokis also notching an RBI. The Brinkash duo contributed decisively — Brody drove in two runs while Brayden added another RBI to round out the scoring.
The Red Tornadoes’ ability to manufacture runs, coupled with stellar pitching, proved to be the winning formula as they now advance to the District IV 3A championship game. While the Trojans' season ends in disappointment, the Red Tornadoes continue their postseason journey with eyes set on a district title.
