The NWALL Minor League Championship game on Friday night saw the Red Barons emerge as champions, delivering a strong 8-3 win over the Blue Bombers in a thrilling season finale.
From the very first inning, the Red Barons set the tone. A groundout by Logan Bertinelli brought in the game’s opening run, sparking early momentum. Though the Blue Bombers quickly answered in the top of the second with a game-tying single to center field by Jaxon, the Red Barons wasted no time regaining control.
In the bottom half of the second, Greysen Devens came up big with a double that drove in two runs, swinging the game firmly in favor of the Red Barons, 3-1. They continued to add pressure in the third inning, tacking on another run after Bray Strintzinger drew a walk with the bases loaded.
On the mound, Jordan Miner delivered a clutch performance, picking up the win with four innings of solid work. He allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out nine batters without issuing a single walk. Starter Jackson Homnick set the stage, striking out three and allowing just one run over the first two innings. The Blue Bombers' starter, Frank, struggled to find rhythm, giving up three runs and three walks in his two-inning stint.
Offensively, the Red Barons showed their depth. Bray, Logan, and Jordan each notched two hits, with Logan and Greysen driving in two runs apiece. Their aggressive base running was a difference-maker—five players recorded multiple stolen bases, contributing to a staggering total of 17 for the game. Their flawless defense also stood out, with no errors committed and Homnick leading the team with 11 fielding chances.
Despite the loss, the Blue Bombers had standout performances of their own and kept the score tight. Jace went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in a run, while Cameron matched his teammate with two hits of his own. The Bombers also showed hustle on the basepaths, swiping six bags.
In the end, it was a complete team effort that secured the championship for the undefeated Red Barons—stellar pitching, timely hitting, sharp defense, and relentless base running all played their part in crowning them league champions.
