The Northwest Rangers made a statement in their first-round matchup against Lackawanna Trail during the PIAA state playoffs, showcasing both skill and heart in front of a packed crowd. The Rangers quickly came out firing, building a solid 17-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. With each passing minute, they gained more momentum, heating up even further in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a commanding 40-23 advantage.

The atmosphere inside the gym was electric, as the loud, energetic crowd filled the stands. It was a sight that took many back to the 1980s when the Northwest Rangers’ teams were known for their powerhouse runs to state championships, winning two titles in that memorable era. With every basket and defensive stop, the crowd’s intensity mirrored those unforgettable playoff games. As the game went on, it became evident that the Rangers were not only playing for a win but for the pride of their school and community.

Northwest kept the pressure on throughout the second half, eventually cruising to a 71-51 victory to advance to the second round of the state playoffs. The win was a statement of dominance, with the Rangers playing a complete team game on both ends of the floor.

The game was also notable for two special milestones. Ryan Miner of Northwest and Jake Antolick of Lackawanna Trail both reached their 1,000th career points during the game, a testament to their hard work and dedication over their high school careers. Miner hit his milestone first, followed by Antolick a few plays later. Both players were honored with a brief stop in play, allowing their teammates, families, and friends to recognize the incredible achievement.

Individual Performances:

For the Rangers, Ryan Miner led the team with 17 points, while his cousin Joz Miner chipped in 16 points. Tucker Crawford had an outstanding performance, posting 14 points and contributing significantly on the boards with 17 rebounds. Brady Shea added 12 points to the total, while Jace McCoy rounded out the scoring with 8 points. Each player’s contribution was critical in the Rangers’ commanding win, and it was clear that the team’s depth and teamwork were key to their success.

On the Lackawanna Trail side, Jake Antolick had a strong outing, finishing with a game-high 18 points. Jimmy Phillips added 16 points, and Lucas Filipek contributed 7 points. Despite their individual efforts, the Trail could not overcome the Rangers’ dominance, and Northwest's all-around play proved too much.

The Rangers’ win sets them up for a second-round matchup on Wednesday, with the time and location of the game still to be determined. Regardless of where they play next, Northwest will undoubtedly carry the energy from this thrilling victory and look to keep their state playoff run alive.

The win not only solidified the Rangers’ place in the next round of the playoffs but also reminded fans of the storied tradition of excellence in Northwest basketball. With their sights set on the future, the Rangers are ready to continue their journey toward a state championship, and if their performance in this game is any indication, they are more than capable of making another deep postseason run.
