BLUE MOUNTAIN, PA — With soggy fields and unsettled skies looming large over the region, high school baseball teams have faced more challenges getting on the field than staying on it. But despite the damp conditions and a slow start to the week’s action, the Blue Mountain Eagles and Tamaqua Blue Raiders managed to get a game in — albeit a low-scoring and tightly contested one.
In a game defined by pitching and weather-worn bats, the Tamaqua Blue Raiders edged out the Blue Mountain Eagles 1-0 on Wednesday. Hits were hard to come by, but it was Mason Ligenza who made the difference, crossing the plate for the game’s only run and sealing the win for the Raiders.
Tamaqua collected six hits on the day, outpacing Blue Mountain's two, but both teams struggled to string together rallies in the damp conditions. The Eagles' offense was led by Cooper Ansbach, Landon Kamant, and Luke Kane — each of whom recorded two hits in the contest. However, the Eagles couldn’t capitalize with runners on base, leaving them scoreless through seven innings.
While the loss stings for Blue Mountain, it was a strong defensive showing in a game that saw very little margin for error. Solid pitching and dependable fieldwork kept the Eagles within striking distance throughout, but the offense couldn’t quite break through.
With more rain in the forecast, both teams will be keeping a close eye on the skies as they prepare for their next scheduled matchups. For now, Tamaqua rides the momentum of a gritty win, while Blue Mountain looks to regroup and return to the win column once the weather cooperates.
