Boston College freshman outfielder Mia Galella, a Holy Cross graduate and former Pennsylvania State Player of the Year is scheduled for ulnar nerve transposition surgery on New Year’s Eve as she continues her recovery from a long-standing elbow issue.
Galella initially tore her UCL in June 2024 and underwent reconstructive surgery, but pain and grip weakness persisted over the next 18 months. After multiple evaluations in Pennsylvania, New York, and Boston, testing recently revealed an entrapped ulnar nerve caused by post-surgical scar tissue.
The procedure will be performed by Dr. Christopher Ahmad, head team surgeon for the New York Yankees. Doctors expect the operation to provide immediate relief of the nerve symptoms and restore normal strength and mobility in her throwing arm.
Despite being somewhat limited her final high-school season, Galella still earned State Player of the Year honors and arrived at Boston College this fall with high expectations.
She has remained fully engaged with the Eagles program and credits head coach Beth Krysiak and her teammates for strong support throughout the setback.
Galella is optimistic about her timeline and determined to return to the field healthier and stronger in 2026.
“I can’t wait to be 100 percent and competing again,” she said. “Let’s go Eags!”
