Silvio Giardina closed out his decorated career at Pittston Area by being named The Citizens’ Voice Male Athlete of the Year, an honor earned through years of consistent excellence in both basketball and baseball.

Dual-Sport Dominance

A standout on the hardwood and the diamond, Giardina left his mark in both sports.

Basketball:

  • Scored 413 points as a senior

  • Averaged 16.5 points per game

  • Knocked down a team-best 64 three-pointers

  • Led the team with 107 free throw attempts

  • Key contributor since freshman year, moving from sixth man to starting lineup by sophomore year

  • Returned from an injury his junior season to help Pittston Area win 5 of its final 6 games

Baseball:

  • .403 batting average

  • Collected 31 hits and 24 RBIs

  • Hit three doubles and six triples

  • Scored 30 runs

  • Made six appearances on the mound, starting five games

  • Finished with a 2-1 record, 3.23 ERA, and 29 strikeouts in 26 innings

  • Named to the Class 5A All-State Team

Giardina was a true leader for both teams—setting the tone with his performance, work ethic, and communication. His ability to lead by example made him one of the most respected athletes in the region.

What’s Next

Giardina will continue his academic and athletic career at Lehigh University, where he is committed to playing Division I baseball.

A once-in-a-generation talent at Pittston Area, Silvio Giardina leaves behind a legacy of excellence and leadership that will be remembered for years to come.
