SCRANTON, PA - Monday night at Scranton High School wasn’t just about basketball—it was about coming together for something bigger. The Lady Knights and the West Scranton Lady Invaders took the court decked out in pink for their annual Coaches vs. Cancer "Pink Out" Game, raising awareness and funds for cancer research.
With the EB Jermyn FOP Lodge #2 stepping up with a $500 donation, plus generous contributions from raffles and concessions, the night was filled with heart, purpose, and community spirit.
On the court, Scranton wasted no time making a statement, storming out to a 25-6 first-quarter lead and cruising to an 80-22 victory. Their lights-out shooting from beyond the arc and tenacious defense made it tough for the Lady Invaders to find any rhythm.
Stars Shine for Scranton
It was a balanced effort from the Lady Knights, with Rhylee Bell and Maggie O’Shea leading the charge, each dropping 15 points. O’Shea had the hot hand from deep, sinking four three-pointers, while Catherine Hill (12 points) and Jaelyn Alers (10 points) kept the offense rolling.
West Scranton battled hard despite the tough night, with Aubrey Kerrigan and Sahmira Menifee leading the way with five points each. Their effort and resilience showed that the night was about more than just the scoreboard.
More Than a Game
While Scranton walked away with the win, the real victory belonged to the fight against cancer. The energy in the gym, the unity between rivals, and the overwhelming community support proved that this game was about something much more important.
As fans cheered and teams played their hearts out, it was clear—basketball was just the platform, but the message was the real MVP.
