The second and final day of the District Two Track & Field Championships took place at Memorial Stadium, despite doubts of whether rain would ruin proceedings. The events went on and there are a lot of winners and big time moments to go over from the day.

AA Girls District Champion: Lakeland- 136.50 points

The Chiefs bookended the day with wins en route to retaining their title. Kaylyn Davis started things off with a gold in the 100 Meter Hurdles and qualified for states for the third time. She will be joined by Natalie Talluto in Shippensburg. Davis was also on the 4x400 Meter relay team that came in first with Bria Hill and twin sisters Faith and Deanna Wormuth. Faith also won the 800 Meter Run to secure her second spot at the state meet. They will be joined by teammate Emily Black as she qualified in the 1600 Meter Run, finishing in second behind Kendyl Weisgold of Elk Lake.

It was also a strong day for the Holy Redeemer sprinters, as their 4x100 Meter relay team, which finished fourth in the state meet last year, won the gold again with the lineup of McKenzie Chimock, Lily Nguyen, Aleese Stair and Jane Gillespe. They will return to states again, and Gillespe will also run in the 400 Meter Dash after winning gold in that event as well.

Western Wayne also had impressive showings, most notably from sophomore Olivia Haines who qualified for states in both the 100 and 200 Meter Dash. Her teammate Katie Skirpan will be there with her to participate in the Pole Vault after winning the event. Her teammates Juleighanna Eldred and Abbie Washine took second and third place respectively. Rounding out the state qualifiers were Sadie Jones of Montrose  Triple Jump and Katie McGlynn of Elk Lake in the Shot Put.

AA Boys District Champion: Mid Valley- 91.25 points

The Spartans kept their lead from May 12 and were able to bring home the trophy with solid performances all around. Their lone state qualifier for the day was Matthew Repecki in the 1600 Meter Run, who qualified along with all five other medalists; Kendel Jones and Cody Adams from Elk Lake who took first and second, third place finisher Michael Beach from Mountain View, fifth place finisher Avery Ronchi from Lackawanna Trail, and sixth place finisher Maxx Kelly from Susquehanna. It was also a huge day for Lake Lehman, as the Black Knights won the 4x400 Meter Relay with Nick Joseph, Tyler Lukavitch, Finn Cronin and Bodhi Cronin, and sent three other runners to states. Finn Cronin won the 800 Meter Run, Bodhi Cronin won the 400 Meter Dash, and Miller Mattie took first in the 100 Meter Dash. Holy Cross is also sending multiple athletes to Shippensburg. Jacob Paroby won gold in the 200 Meter Dash and Kevin Vincent did the same in the Long Jump.

The rest of the state finalists are Cole Fangio from Dunmore in the 110 Meter Hurdles, the Montrose 4x100 Meter relay team of Carl Nolt, Jamier Robinsion, Nicolo Christian and Maximus Kuwaye, Aiden Matthews of Western Wayne in the Pole Vault, and Andrew Chase from Holy Redeemer in the Shot Put.

AAA Girls District Champion: Dallas- 129 points

Dallas was a lot like Lakeland in that they both captured a second straight district title and did so in dominating fashion. Julia Natitus led the way with three gold medals on the day and four across the two days. She won the 100 Meter Hurdles, the 400 Meter Dash, and was the last leg of the 4x400 relay team that broke the District Championship Meet Record set by North Pocono in 2014, along with her teammates Gracie Coyne, Kaitlyn Keller, and Madison Hedglin. Hedglin won another gold medal in the 1600 Meter Run and qualified for states alongside Anna Pucilowski of Abington Heights. Coyne also qualified for states by finishing fourth in the 400 meter dash, and will run alongside second place finisher Marguerite Coleman from Abington Heights and Kaitlyn Kravitz from North Pocono, who came in third. Kravitz would also qualify in the 200 Meter Dash where she got first place.

Katy Korty of Carbondale Area set a district record in the 800 Meter Run, posting a time of 2:13.59 to win gold. She will be joined at states by Ella McKernan of Wyoming Area and Reese Morgan of Abington Heights. The only other event with multiple qualifiers was the Long Jump, which saw first place finisher Nevaeh Baran of Nanticoke and second place finisher Tomara Seid of Abington Heights punch their tickets.

The other state qualifiers were Ali Butcher of Pittston Area in the 100 Meter Dash, Madi Geiger of Crestwood in the Javelin, Jaida Underwood of Wilkes-Barre Area in the High Jump, the Deleware Valley 4x100 Meter relay team of Liliana Coe, Franne Russo, Teizu Jones and Emma Simmons, and Peyton Fox of Scranton Prep in the Discus.

AAA Boys District Champion: Wilkes-Barre Area- 86 points

It was as close as could be between Wilkes-Barre Area and Hazleton, two rivals competing for the AAA team title. The Wolfpack were led by sprinters Kevon Creech and Timothy Leonard, who both qualified for states in both the 100 Meter and 200 Meter Dash with first and second place finishes. Leonard set a new district record with a time of 10.60 seconds in the 100 Meter Dash. They will be joined at states in the 200 Meter Dash by Dj Rogers from Abington Heights. Creech and Leonard also helped win the 4x100 Meter Relay along with Juvell Williams and Robert Miller. Davon Underwood also helped the Wolfpack by winning the Long Jump.  Hazleton saw success from runners Owen Pollock and Franklin Ritz. Pollock took first in the 400 Meter Dash and Ritz also pulled out the win in the 800 Meter Run. Both runners qualified for the state tournament. It all came down to the 4x400 Meter Relay, where the Wolfpack came in second and the Cougars came in fourth, which meant that Wilkes-Barre Area won the District 2 AAA Boys Team Title.

Wallenpaupack will also be sending several athletes to Shippensburg. Nicholas VanBuskir won the High Jump and Ryan Vargo brought home gold in the Discus. Aiden Janowicz also defended his district crown and won the 1600 Meter Run once again. Their 4x400 Meter relay team of Janowicz, Jacob Gardner, Ehren Keller and Dawid Mrowka also took first place.

The only other state qualifiers were Jhaven Sims-Pagan of Scranton in the 110 Meter Hurdles and Hunter Pitcavage of Dallas in the Javelin.

That concludes the two days of coverage for the PIAA District 2 Track & Field Championships. Thank you so much for following along and good luck to all the athletes at the state meet at Shippensburg University on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24.
