Pittston Area delivered an emphatic performance in this year’s edition of the “Battle of the Bridge,” cruising past Wyoming Area with an 11-1 victory on Sunday.
The Patriots wasted no time taking control, plating five runs in the opening inning and following up with four more in the second to build a commanding 9-0 lead. Silvio Giardina led the offensive charge with a 2-RBI performance, while Nicholas Innamorati went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run.
Beau Widdick took the mound and set the tone defensively, allowing just two hits and one run over four innings while striking out two. TJ Johnson closed the game with a scoreless fifth, striking out two more to seal the mercy-rule win.
Wyoming Area struggled to gain footing, scoring their lone run in the fourth. Despite a hit and a run scored from Mitchell Rusinchak and a sacrifice RBI from Jeremy Layland, the Warriors couldn’t rally against Pittston’s pitching and early offensive explosion.
The victory extends Pittston Area’s dominant run, improving their record with yet another statement win. With momentum clearly on their side, the Patriots look poised to make noise in the second half of the season
