Mountain View punched its ticket to the District 2 Class 2A championship with a thrilling 45-38 overtime victory over Wyoming Seminary. Riley Turner’s clutch three-pointer in OT sealed the win, while Aubrey Sanders led the Eagles with 19 points. Despite a stellar 29-point effort from Ella Stambaugh, Seminary fell short. Mountain View now faces top-seeded Elk Lake in the Susquehanna County Showdown on February 28 at Mohegan Arena.
Crestwood needed a full team effort on Saturday afternoon if they were to advance to the District Finals. Charlie Hiller had a game high 18 points and Jackie Gallagher added 14 points to get the 56-39 victory over Abington Heights to advance to the District 2 5A Finals. “We came in with a lot of confidence, came out with a bunch of energy and we came out as a team and we performed as best as we could for all four quarters.” Said Hiller. “Credit to the girls. They worked all week and they couldn’t have executed our plan any better.” Said Crestwood head coach Mary Mushock-Namey.
In a back-and-forth battle, Lackawanna Trail pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a 52-48 victory over Mountain View.
YATESVILLE — For the third time this season, Dallas proved to be a difficult matchup for Pittston Area, and Saturday’s District 2 Class 5A girls basketball semifinal was no different. Behind a dominant performance from freshman center Odessa Kanton and a tenacious defensive effort from sophomore guard Caitlyn Mizzer, the third-seeded Mountaineers secured a 47-36 victory over second-seeded Pittston Area.
Scranton punched its ticket to the Class 6A subregional championship with a thrilling 44-43 overtime win over Williamsport. Johnathon Levine led the way with 13 points, while Jayden Burrell added a double-double. The Knights clutch three-point shooting proved decisive as they now await their next challenge at the Mohegan Arena.
With the victory, Northwest moves on to the District 4 2A Championship, where they will face Muncy, who defeated North East Bradford later in the evening. Northwest beat Muncy twice during the regular season and will look for a third while also bringing home the District championship.
