DUNMORE — With a title on the line and their backs against the wall, the Dunmore Varsity Bucks delivered a seventh-inning stunner, walking off Riverside 4-3 to claim the District II Class 3A Championship on Tuesday afternoon. Evan Mizenko played the hero, lacing a two-run single to center that turned a one-run deficit into a championship celebration.

Riverside held a 3-0 lead heading into the sixth, thanks to strong pitching by Nicholas Bohenek and timely offense led by Chris Graff, who crushed a two-run homer to left in the top of the fourth inning. Graff, who finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, energized the Vikings’ dugout and set the tone early.

Bohenek was sharp for most of the game, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing just four hits and striking out nine. He appeared poised to deliver Riverside a district crown, but Dunmore’s final-inning resilience flipped the script. After a base hit by Mason Stets scored one to cut the lead to 3-2, Mizenko came through with the dagger — a two-out, two-run single that sealed the walk-off win and the championship for the Bucks.

Mizenko was the catalyst for Dunmore’s offense, going 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Stets also chipped in with a hit, a run, and an RBI. The Bucks totaled just four hits but made every one count.

On the mound, Jamie McMynne started the game with three shutout innings and was followed by Michael Forgione, who allowed all three Riverside runs across the next three innings. Stets then threw a scoreless seventh to keep it a one-run game and ultimately earn the win.

Despite the loss, Riverside showed discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks, including two from leadoff man Jose Sosa. Jason Posluszny and Ben Kulikowski each had singles, and Chase Taddonio reached base twice and scored a run.

But in the end, it was Dunmore’s grit and timely hitting that delivered the program a championship in dramatic fashion.
