ASHLEY — The North Pocono Dandy Lion All-Stars wasted no time making their presence known at Bobby Strish Field, delivering a complete performance in a 12-1 victory over Greater Wyoming Area in Thursday’s Majors Division sectional elimination game.
Serena Lesh was lights out in the circle for North Pocono, tossing four innings of one-hit ball while striking out five and walking just three. She had plenty of support behind her—both in the field and at the plate.
North Pocono broke through in the second inning when Payton Schmidt drove in three runs with a clutch single, and Peyton Murphy grounded out to bring home another, making it 4-0.
The third inning sealed the deal. North Pocono erupted for six runs on five hits. Emma Havenstrite and McKinley Washko each delivered RBI singles, while Danica Calkins ripped a two-run double into the outfield gap. Two additional runs came across on a GWA fielding error.
Calkins and Washko each had two hits on the day to lead a nine-hit attack, while Schmidt and Washko each finished with two RBIs. North Pocono’s defense was rock solid, committing no errors in the win. Taighan Jones anchored the defense with five plays in the field.
Greater Wyoming Area’s lone run came in the bottom of the third, when Emma Stevens knocked in a run after Natalie Pikas reached base. Pikas led GWA at the plate, going 1-for-2. She also started in the circle, striking out four in four innings of work.
With the win, North Pocono advances to the Majors Division Sectional Championship on July 4th, where they’ll meet Valley View (Carbino Club/Archbald) for the right to move on (NP must win 2x). The holiday title clash is set to bring fireworks both on and off the field.
