Carbondale, PA. — The New York Jets’ offensive line stopped by Camp Freedom for a day on the long range in June. VIDEO
Joe Tippmann, Zack Bailey, Kohl Levao, Josh Meyers, Max Mitchell, Xavier Newman, John Simpson, and Carter Warren joined the Camp Freedom staff to learn about how they can assist in the mission of serving our American Heroes while getting to shoot firearms on a mile-long range.
Camp Freedom is a nonprofit organization that provides outdoor adventures for disabled Veterans, First Responders, their families, Gold Star Families, and Gold Shield Families. Their mission is to provide a healing environment for our American Heroes who have sacrificed their freedoms for ours.
Camp Freedom is home to the Lancer Systems 1776 Liberty Range, which reaches to 1776 yards (1.009 miles). The end of the range has a Liberty Bell target that lights up if you hit the mark. You sight in rifles starting at 100 yards and work your way out.
The Jets first got involved with Camp Freedom in last year’s NFL My Cause My Cleats campaign game. Center, Tippmann, decided that Camp Freedom was a worthy cause to represent. Tippmann wore custom Camp Freedom cleats designed by Marcus Rivero from Soles by Sir during the game.
According to NFL Operations, the "My Cause My Cleats campaign aims to raise awareness and funds for various charitable organizations through the NFL.”
The connection with Tippmann was made through Greenley’s BBQ, as they cater for both Camp Freedom and the Jets.
While at Camp Freedom, the offensive lineman spent the day on the long range, while Tippmann went on a successful buffalo hunt in a 550-acre area.
“(It was) a great experience and fun day spent with the boys,” said Bailey via Instagram. “Thank you, Camp Freedom, for your hospitality and all your efforts to support our Heroes!”
Tippmann shared his experience and appreciation with the Camp Freedom team in a video that will be coming out soon.
“It was a blast,” said Tippmann about his buffalo hunt. “It was a long day… the rain started rolling in… we finally got her down (in the evening). She’s a beast, and I want to thank you guys for the opportunity to come out here and do this. This is a life-changing experience for me.”
Entering his third year in the NFL, Tippmann will continue to support Camp Freedom. We can look forward to having Tippmann and other New York Jets players in the Carbondale area in the future.
