The NEPA Storm stormed through the competition at Connell Park in South Scranton, finishing the three-day 10U Travel Softball Tournament with a perfect 5-0 record and claiming the championship with a 4-2 win over the Abington Wildcats.
The Mid Valley-based team showcased depth and determination all weekend, defeating the Harleysville Raiders, Back Mountain Steam, and Abington Wildcats to reach the title game. Each matchup tested the Storm’s resilience, but their steady pitching and timely hitting proved to be the difference.
In the championship game, pitchers Nora Piercy and Grace Eboli combined for 11 strikeouts to keep the Wildcats’ bats in check. Piercy set the tone early, commanding the zone and challenging hitters, while Eboli closed strong to seal the win. The pair’s chemistry and confidence from the circle were key to the Storm’s success throughout the tournament.
At the plate, Arya Ameika led the offensive surge with three hits, providing consistent contact and energy for the lineup. Lilyana Smargiassi delivered two crucial RBI that helped the Storm pull ahead in the later innings. Their timely performances fueled the momentum and kept pressure on Abington’s defense.
Supporting the effort, Eboli, Piercy, Grace Whitling, Eliza Iyoob, and Frankie Nails each contributed hits to round out a balanced attack. The Storm’s ability to spread production across the lineup made them difficult to contain all weekend long.
The Abington Wildcats fought hard until the end, with K. Lopuhovsky driving in both of the team’s runs on two hits. Despite the loss, the Wildcats displayed strong fundamentals and determination throughout the tournament, earning respect from coaches and fans alike.
As the final out was recorded, the NEPA Storm celebrated a well-earned title and a perfect weekend, capping an exciting showcase of youth softball talent at Connell Park.
