POTTSVILLE, PA — A six-run fifth inning broke the game wide open as Nativity BVM surged past Mahanoy Area, 10-1, in Thursday's home conference matchup. With the win, the Green Wave improves to 2-0 against the Golden Bears this season and boosts their league record to 4-6. Mahanoy drops to 1-8 in conference play.
The Green Wave offense was fueled by strong contributions from several players. Ryan Examitis and Nick Clarke each recorded two hits, with Clarke tallying two RBIs and scoring once. Examitis added an RBI and a run. Stephen Karinch chipped in with a hit, two RBIs, and crossed the plate twice. Additional hits came from Ariaudo and Grabowski.
On the basepaths, Nativity remained aggressive, collecting three stolen bases on the day. They also overcame three defensive errors with timely hitting and solid pitching.
Mahanoy’s lone highlight came in the fifth inning when Brody Noraka drove in Justin De La Rosa for the team’s only run and only hit of the day. Mahanoy struggled offensively throughout, hampered by four fielding errors.
Ryan Grabowski took the mound for Nativity and delivered a dominant complete-game performance, striking out six and allowing just one hit over seven innings.
Nativity will look to build off this momentum as they aim to climb the standings in the final stretch of the season, while Mahanoy searches for answers in hopes of turning things around.
