Pittston Township – Wyoming Area came through in dramatic fashion Wednesday morning, pulling off a 3-2 overtime victory over Holy Redeemer at 10th Street.
Holy Redeemer struck first when Tessa Cegelka buried a shot at the 20:22 mark of the first half to give the Royals a 1-0 advantage.
Wyoming Area answered after the break. Sofia Menta tied the match at 25:46 of the second half off an assist from Kinley Park, and with just 4:33 to play, Alana Zdaniewicz put the Warriors in front on a feed from Ava Musinski.
But the Royals wouldn’t go quietly. Elyse Kunec converted a penalty kick with 2:43 left in regulation to even things at 2-2 and send the contest into extra time.
The Warriors wasted little time in the overtime session. Just 2:14 in, Musinski delivered the game-winner, finishing a setup from Mia Ciampi to seal the victory.
Wyoming Area outshot Holy Redeemer 15-6 and held an 8-5 edge in corners. Goalkeeper Abi Francis made 4 saves for the Warriors, while Sadie Werner stood tall with 12 stops for the Royals.
