In a hard-fought District 4 2A Semi-final on Saturday night, the Muncy Indians avenged a recent loss to the Northwest Lady Rangers by claiming a 29-15 victory, earning a spot in the District Championship game next week. Despite a strong defensive effort, the Lady Rangers struggled offensively and were unable to keep up with Muncy’s offensive firepower.

The game was a low-scoring affair early on, with both teams battling fiercely for control. In the first quarter, Muncy managed to edge out Northwest 5-3. The Lady Rangers were plagued by early foul trouble, particularly with Ashlyn Hermanofski picking up two fouls in the first quarter. Despite this setback, the Lady Rangers stayed close, limiting Muncy’s opportunities.

The second quarter saw both teams continuing to struggle offensively, as Muncy outscored Northwest 5-4 to take a 10-7 lead into halftime. Ava Ruckle provided the majority of Northwest's offense, leading the team with 6 points, but it wasn’t enough to break through Muncy’s defense.

The third quarter was when Muncy began to assert their dominance. The Indians outscored the Lady Rangers 12-4, opening up a 22-11 lead. Addison Eyer was particularly effective, scoring 14 points, including several key shots that helped Muncy expand their lead. Ava Eyer added 10 points to the effort, giving Muncy a well-rounded attack.

Despite a valiant effort from Northwest in the fourth quarter, where they managed to score just 4 points, Muncy sealed the win with a 7-point showing, finishing the game with a 29-15 score. The loss marked a bittersweet end to Northwest’s District Championship hopes, especially after defeating Muncy in the Conference Championship on Valentine's Day.

For Northwest, Hermanofski’s 5 points, combined with Ruckle’s 6, were the highlights of the night. However, the Lady Rangers were unable to overcome the consistent scoring from Muncy’s Addison and Ava Eyer. In addition, contributions from Anne Zalonis (3 points) and Rosalie Zalonis (2 points) helped round out the Indians’ scoring effort.

This win is significant for Muncy, as it serves as a form of revenge after their recent Conference Championship defeat. Muncy’s victory in this semi-final has sent them to the District Championship game, where they will look to capture the title next week. For Northwest, it’s a tough loss, but the Lady Rangers will undoubtedly look to build on the experience and improve for next year. The Lady Rangers will play Canton for 3rd place in the District and a chance to advance to State playoffs.

The District 4 2A Championship game promises to be an exciting showdown, with Muncy taking on North East Bradford.
