Moosic Rallies Past West Scranton to Secure Spot in District 17 Majors Championship

SCRANTON — With their season on the line, Moosic Little League delivered when it mattered most.
Powered by a game-breaking fourth inning and a gritty complete game from Jack Pierson, Moosic defeated West Scranton 7-4 in a District 17 Majors Division elimination game Thursday evening at West Scranton Little League.
Moosic got on the board early, scoring in the first inning after an error brought home a run. West Scranton responded quickly — Ryan O’Hora tied the game with an RBI groundout in the second, and Garren Connor gave them a 2-1 lead in the third on another run-scoring groundout.
But the tide turned in the bottom of the fourth. Moosic exploded for five runs on six hits, highlighted by a two-strike RBI double from Marek Samsell that gave his team the edge. Nathan Ellis, Luca Hermanson, SJ Genell, Nick Posluszny, and Mason Linck each knocked in a run during the inning to stretch the lead to 6-2.
Moosic added an insurance run in the fifth, while Pierson held strong on the mound. The right-hander scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run over six innings, striking out two and walking one to earn the win.
Leadoff man Wyatt Davis led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance, while Samsell, Ellis, Hermanson, Genell, Posluszny, and Linck all chipped in RBIs as part of a 10-hit Moosic attack.
West Scranton didn’t go quietly. Jackson Griffiths had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Jake Holman and O’Hora added hits. Duffy Shrive got the start on the mound, striking out five over four innings, but ran into trouble during Moosic’s big inning.
With the win, Moosic advances to the District 17 Majors Championship game, where they’ll take on Abington this Saturday with a title and a trip to sectionals on the line.
