The Montrose Meteors cruised to a commanding 61-26 victory over the Carbondale Area Chargers on Tuesday night. From the tip-off, the Meteors demonstrated their offensive firepower and defensive intensity, leaving the Chargers still searching for their first win of the season.
Montrose was led by the dynamic duo of Lucas Cokely and Connor Flynn, who each tallied a game-high 15 points. Flynn was particularly effective from mid-range and in transition, while Cokely showcased his versatility on both ends of the court. Adding to the Meteors' scoring depth, Jack Russell contributed 13 points, knocking down three crucial three-pointers to keep Carbondale at bay.
On the Chargers' side, freshman standout Cole Becchetti provided a bright spot for the home team, leading Carbondale with 11 points. However, Montrose's stifling defense limited offensive opportunities for the rest of the squad.
The Meteors opened the game with a strong first quarter, outscoring the Chargers 17-5 and carrying that momentum throughout the night. By halftime, Montrose had built a comfortable 36-12 lead, effectively putting the game out of reach. The Meteors' dominance continued in the second half, as they extended their lead to secure the 61-26 victory.
With this win, Montrose moves forward with confidence as they prepare to face Blue Ridge on Thursday. Meanwhile, Carbondale will aim to regroup as they travel to Forest City to take on the Foresters, still seeking their breakthrough victory.
