Montrose High School was the place to be on Friday night, as the Meteors put on a dominant performance against the Carbondale Area Chargers, winning 76-44 in a special Coaches vs. Cancer fundraiser game. Beyond the scoreboard, the night was a success off the court as well, with 46 total rebounds helping raise $1,587 through pledges, contributing to an expected $5,500 donation from the school’s Suits & Sneakers Week initiative.

The Meteors came out slow, trailing 15-7 after the first quarter, but exploded for 29 points in the second to take control of the game. Jack Russell was a force for Montrose, scoring a game-high 22 points, including four three-pointers. Connor Flynn added 17 points and controlled the tempo, while Lucas Cokely (13 points) and Jude Adams (10 points) provided additional scoring depth.

Carbondale battled hard, with Cole Becchetti leading the Chargers with 21 points, including five three-pointers. Francisco Roman chipped in 11 points, but the Chargers struggled to keep up with Montrose’s offensive firepower in the second half.

With a convincing win and a successful fundraiser, the Meteors made an impact both on and off the court. The school continues to collect donations, with expectations of surpassing their $5,500.
