The Misericordia University women’s volleyball team advanced to the MAC Freedom Championship after defeating Lebanon Valley, 25-11, 25-23, 25-22, in the conference semifinals. The Cougars enter the title match with a 22-9 overall record and a 7-0 conference record after completing an undefeated MAC Freedom regular season. Misericordia is 10-3 at home and 8-3 on the road this year. The team ranks second in the MAC Freedom in hitting percentage (.216) and blocks per set (1.72), and third in service aces per set (2.54). Sophomore middle hitter Keira McCaffrey leads the conference in hitting percentage (.404) and blocks per set (1.03). Senior setter Jenna Schuda leads the MAC Freedom with 8.39 assists per set and is second in aces per set at .62. Senior outside hitter Meghan Peters surpassed 1,000 career kills earlier this season.
Second-seeded Stevens University reached the championship match after sweeping DeSales, 25-18, 25-15, 25-23, in Wednesday’s semifinal. The Ducks are 21-9 overall and finished 6-1 in MAC Freedom play. With the victory, Stevens extended its MAC Freedom Tournament winning streak to 11 consecutive matches, a streak that began in 2019, the year the program joined the conference. In the semifinal win, senior outside hitter Alyssa O’Neal recorded 12 kills and eight digs, while senior hitter Sarah Bolduc added nine kills. Sophomore libero Lianna Schmieder posted a match-high 22 digs along with six assists and three aces. In MAC Freedom play this season, Stevens led the conference in service aces per set (2.63) and ranked second in team hitting percentage (.226).
Misericordia will host the championship match, and the winner will receive the MAC Freedom’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
