Nicholson, PA — Mid Valley is heading to the District 32 12U Championship.
Fueled by timely hitting and a dominant outing on the mound, Mid Valley defeated Christy Mathewson 5-1 in Thursday’s elimination game at 182 Arbor Lane to clinch a spot in Saturday’s title matchup against Lakeland.
Mid Valley wasted no time getting on the board, using aggressive baserunning to steal home in the first inning and grab a quick 1-0 lead.
The big swing came in the third, when Owen Mills roped a two-run double into the gap to stretch the lead to 3-0. Moments later, Brendan Thatcher knocked in another run with a single, giving Mid Valley full control.
That was more than enough for starting pitcher Mason Tuft, who went the distance with six strong innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one unearned run while striking out seven and walking two. Tuft also swiped two bases to help his own cause.
Mills finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBIs to lead Mid Valley’s offense, which stayed disciplined and capitalized on key moments throughout the game.
Christy Mathewson got on the board in the fourth thanks to an RBI from Cooper M., while Easton M., Lucas G., and Conor M. each added hits. Defensively, Christy Mathewson turned a double play to keep things close in the middle innings.
With the win, Mid Valley advances to the District 32 championship game on Saturday, where they’ll face undefeated Lakeland with the title — and a trip to sectionals — on the line.
