The Spartans boys cross country team took down last year’s league champions with a dominant performance, putting five runners inside the top nine. Leading the way was individual winner Jacob Borrelli, who set the pace early and never looked back. His strong finish anchored a team effort that showcased Mid Valley’s depth.

On the soccer field, Mid Valley edged Lakeland 2-1 in a tightly contested matchup. The game was locked in a scoreless tie for much of the day before Borrelli once again made his presence felt, this time setting up the go-ahead strike. He threaded a clean ball to Tyler Narcoonis, who buried it with just over 30 minutes remaining. The Spartans extended the lead when Ethan Johnson cashed in on a rebound chance after a Ben Riggal rocket rattled the crossbar. Lakeland clawed back late, converting a penalty kick after a handball in the box with under a minute to play, but Mid Valley’s defense held firm to close out the win.

Johnson followed up with a goal off a Ben Riggal shot that pinged the cross bar. Late in the game Lakeland capitalized on a handball in the box and converted on a PK to come within 1 with less than a minute to play.
