TUNKHANNOCK, PA – On a day that saw more runs than most doubleheaders, the Montrose Varsity Meteors exploded offensively to outpace the Tunkhannock Varsity Tigers in a 32-14 shootout Thursday at Tunkhannock High School.
The Meteors brought the thunder from the opening pitch, scoring in every inning and totaling 16 hits and 16 walks in the blowout. Leading the charge was senior standout Hudson Aukema, who delivered a jaw-dropping performance with 8 RBIs on 4 hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth and a clutch three-run double in the second. Aukema’s plate discipline and power were on full display, as he also added a walk and a pair of singles to his monster stat line.
While Aukema lit up the scoreboard, he wasn’t alone. Adam Sorensen knocked in three RBIs with a double and a triple, Lukas Cokely chipped in with two hits and three RBIs, and Christopher McGee added four RBIs of his own. Montrose racked up nine runs in the sixth inning alone, effectively putting the game out of reach and cementing one of the wildest offensive displays in recent memory.
Tunkhannock, to their credit, didn’t go quietly. They mounted a strong second inning with six runs, highlighted by Brandon Kozlansky’s two-RBI triple and Josiah Parr’s two-run double. The Tigers showed flashes of power as well, with Ethan Dominick launching a grand slam to left in the fourth inning — a shot that temporarily brought life back to the home crowd.
On the mound, Montrose’s Adam Sorensen got the win, allowing 10 unearned runs over four innings while striking out five. Chase Harman delivered a shutdown relief inning with three strikeouts and no hits.
Both teams showcased impressive speed, combining for eight stolen bases, but in the end, it was Montrose’s relentless offense that stole the show.
