Misericordia University has officially named Matt Flanagan as its new Strength and Conditioning Coach, bringing more than two decades of expertise, passion, and community dedication to the Cougars’ athletic programs.
Flanagan, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), has built an impressive reputation across District 2 and beyond over the last 21 years. His résumé reflects a career defined by both results and relationships, with a long list of standout athletes who credit him for helping them elevate their game.
Among those athletes are Dominic DeLuca, who went on to Penn State football; Mia Hopkins, a professional basketball player; Aaron Crossley, a Division I running back at Lehigh University; and Sukhmail Mathon, a professional basketball player. These names represent just a fraction of the athletes who have thrived under Flanagan’s guidance, from high school state champions to Division I collegiate standouts.
What sets Flanagan apart isn’t just the success stories, but the relentless work ethic behind them. He is a fixture on sidelines and in weight rooms, attending games across sports and levels to better understand the demands athletes face. He constantly sharpens his craft—studying, evolving, and applying cutting-edge training methods while balancing the timeless fundamentals of strength and conditioning.
Flanagan has also built a strong reputation as a community leader through FameStrength, the training company he co-owns, and through SportsWire, a sports media platform he helps run that highlights local athletes and teams. His dual role as both a coach and storyteller has given him a unique perspective: he not only develops athletes physically but also helps celebrate their journeys publicly.
Now, at Misericordia University, Flanagan will bring his wealth of experience, proven methods, and tireless dedication to Cougar athletes. His arrival signals an exciting new era for the program, one rooted in a culture of hard work, resilience, and continual improvement.
“Matt’s passion for athlete development is unmatched,” said Maddie Olshemski, who plays D1 Field Hockey at Rutgers who trained under Flanagan. “He doesn’t just train athletes—he invests in them. Misericordia is getting someone who truly lives and breathes this profession.”
With 21 years of coaching experience, nationally recognized credentials, and a track record of success across multiple sports, Matt Flanagan steps into his new role ready to push Misericordia athletes to new heights—one rep, one sprint, and one game at a time.
