Makenzie Switzer, a senior Biology major at Lafayette College, has become a vital part of the Leopards' field hockey program. She is not only known for her skill and leadership but for her resilience and heart. Makenzie is also a proud Wyoming Area High School alumna with an incredible story.
In 2024, Makenzie and her teammates won the Patriot League field hockey conference championship. But her journey to that title hasn’t been without challenges. Going into her senior year of high school, Makenzie suffered a torn ACL, a devastating injury for any athlete. Yet through it all, Lafayette stood by her side, offering unwavering support during the recruiting process, making her college choice “a no-brainer.”
What drew Makenzie to Lafayette wasn’t just the athletics but also the tight-knit community and family-like culture that helped her thrive. She credits the low faculty-to-student ratio and the school's dedicated support for athletes as keys to her success, both on the field and in the classroom. Her academic drive has earned her a spot on the Dean’s List, a reflection of the same discipline she brings to her sport.
Makenzie also draws strength from her family, particularly her parents, who have attended every single game since high school no matter the distance. Her father serves as a daily source of motivation, and watching his hard work fuels her determination, even on the toughest days.
As she enters her final season, Makenzie has her eyes set on back-to-back Patriot League championships, earning First Team All-Patriot League honors, and growing as a leader and team captain, especially by deepening her off-field connections with teammates.
After college, Makenzie plans to pursue a Master’s degree to become a Physician Assistant. But her passion for sports remains strong and she hopes to coach young athletes, helping them reach their potential while staying connected to the competitive environment that shaped her
