FAIRCHANCE, PA — On Day 2 of the PA State Majors Tournament, Abington and Pennridge gave the crowd a game to remember. Big hits, big plays, and one massive swing from Max Vazquez flipped the script in a 9-6 Abington win that had everyone on their feet at Fairchance Little League.
Pennridge jumped out early in the second with a solo blast from Tucker C. and an RBI single from Jonah Los to make it 2-0. But Abington answered right back in the bottom half, with Oliver Giroux and Grady Tomachick ripping back-to-back RBI singles and a defensive miscue allowing a third run to cross.
Then came the fireworks in the third—Mags Rivera launched a rocket to center for a two-run homer, giving Pennridge the 5-3 lead.
But the game wasn’t over—not even close.
Down two in the fifth, Abington loaded the bases. That’s when "Mad Max" Vazquez stepped in and smashed a bases-clearing double that brought the dugout roaring to life! It was the swing that changed everything, putting Abington up 9-6 for good.
Vazquez also shut things down on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with three punchouts. Penn Eckenrode got the start and held it down for the first 2.2 innings, striking out three and battling through a tough Pennridge lineup.
Lucas Deschaine led the way with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate, while hits came from all over the lineup—proof of Abington’s depth and hustle.
Pennridge swung the bats well, too, matching with 11 hits. Gavin De Milt went 3-for-3, and Jackson Funk chipped in two hits of his own. Rivera drove in four runs and showed serious power in the heart of the order.
What’s Next:
Abington is now 2-0 and flying high in the winners bracket, one step closer to the state title. The energy’s up, the bats are hot, and the belief is strong heading into Day 3 in Fairchance!
