In a well-rounded offensive performance, Holy Redeemer punched their ticket forward with an 8-4 victory over Elk Lake on Tuesday, May 27. The Royals erupted in the middle innings and leaned on the bat of Mary Lombardi and the arm of Anne Carter to power past the Lady Warriors.

Lombardi had a day to remember, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a double and three singles, contributing two runs and swiping two bases. She set the tone early with a double in the first and continued to apply pressure throughout the game. Addie Brill also provided a boost, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, while Katie Genovese delivered a clutch triple in the sixth to drive in two.

The scoring opened in the fourth, when Elk Lake’s Celeste Clark delivered a two-run single and a third run came across on an error, giving the Lady Warriors a 3-0 lead. However, Holy Redeemer responded with three of their own in the fifth — sparked by a two-run double from Brill and an RBI single by Carter — tying the game at 3-3.

In the sixth, the Royals broke it open. Genovese’s triple brought in two runs, and Abby Williams followed with a sacrifice fly. The rally didn’t stop there. Holy Redeemer tacked on two more in the seventh to pull away.

Carter was stellar in the circle, tossing a complete game. The right-hander allowed six hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out 11 and walking three on 119 pitches (72 strikes). She also chipped in at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

For Elk Lake, Brynn Warriner continued to shine, going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, accounting for five total bases. Clark, Lydia Howell, and Marissa Horn each had an RBI in the effort. Horn went the distance on the mound as well, throwing 128 pitches and allowing 15 hits, 8 runs (7 earned), with 4 strikeouts and just one walk.

Milestone Note:

Despite missing her entire sophomore season due to an ACL injury, Marissa Horn reached an incredible career milestone in this game — recording her 500th career strikeout in just three seasons of varsity play.
