Logan Birth, a 2024 graduate of River of Life Christian Academy in the Lake-Lehman area, is a young man with a steady hand, a quiet spirit, and a deep passion for the outdoors. While many graduates are still figuring out what drives them, Logan has long known where his heart lies — out on the water, rod in hand.

Fishing, for Logan, isn't just a hobby; it's part of who he is. “I’ve been fishing since I knew how to walk,” he says with a smile. That early love for casting a line was nurtured by his father, who taught him the basics and instilled in him a respect for nature and patience. It’s a tradition that has grown into one of Logan’s greatest joys.

In the fall, Logan will be entering his sophomore year at Liberty University, where he is part of the LU Bass Fishing Team — a competitive collegiate fishing program that has given him the chance to pursue his passion at a higher level. Last season, Logan and his fishing partner, Gavin Sheffer, placed 41st out of 300 boats in the ACA (Association of Collegiate Anglers) tournament held at Pickwick Lake in Alabama — a notable achievement in one of the country’s top college-level fishing events.

With Gavin recently being named president of the LU Bass Fishing Team for the upcoming semester, Logan believes he will likely step into the role of vice president. The team will consist of 10 members this year, and Logan is excited for what lies ahead — both in terms of competition and leadership.

For those unfamiliar with the sport, Logan eagerly explained the structure of competitive fishing. There are three primary leagues that govern the sport. The National Professional Fishing League (TNPFL) is open to anglers of all ages and skill levels who wish to fish professionally. The other two — Major League Fishing (MLF) and Bassmaster — run tournaments for high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Anglers must qualify to compete in many of these events, especially at the highest level.

In Bassmaster events, such as the Bassmaster Opens, anglers typically fish in 2–3 day tournaments, weighing in their five best fish each day. With eight qualifying series per year, placing first in a single event or consistently placing in the top 5 or top 10 across multiple events can earn an angler a spot in the prestigious Bassmaster Elite Series — the top tier of professional bass fishing.

Despite the demands of his sport, Logan has managed to excel in the classroom as well. He finished his freshman year with a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning a spot on the Dean’s List and acceptance into Liberty’s Honors Program. He is currently majoring in Business Administration and is exploring future opportunities, including possibly owning a business of his own — perhaps a sporting goods store that reflects his lifelong passion.

Each year, Logan and his family take a fishing trip to Canada — a cherished tradition that has become a cornerstone of his love for the sport. “I enjoy the scenery, the quietness, and the peace of it,” he reflects. “That’s when I fell in love with it.” Those serene moments on the lake, surrounded by wilderness and family, have left a lasting impression on Logan and shaped the person he’s become.

As he looks ahead to the future, Logan plans to continue embracing the outdoors and deepening his connection with nature. Whether it’s through fishing, business, or simply taking time to enjoy the stillness of a quiet lake, he carries with him the values of patience, persistence, and peace — qualities he’s learned both on the water and through the guidance of his family.

With a solid foundation, a strong work ethic, and a deep-rooted passion for the sport, Logan Birth is a young man charting a meaningful course — and he’s only just begun to reel in his future.
