CLARKS SUMMIT — With the season on the line, Abington 10U All-Stars delivered in the clutch. Trailing in the fifth, Abington surged ahead with a four-run inning and held off Greater Wyoming Area for a 7-4 victory in Sunday’s Section 5 Minors game at Ackerly Field.
Tied at four in the bottom of the fifth, David Kalechitz laced a three-run double to give Abington the lead for good. Kalechitz finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs, igniting the offense just when they needed it most.
Eliot Karam and Jake McCormack knocked in runs during a productive second inning, and Jack Keeler drew a crucial bases-loaded walk to break the tie in the fifth ahead of Kalechitz’s big swing.
Noah Troy got the start for Abington, holding GWA to one hit and no runs over 4.2 innings. Giovanni Tunis closed it down with a scoreless sixth, and Timmy Deschaine led a flawless defense with four putouts.
GWA mounted a strong comeback in the top of the fifth, taking a 4-3 lead after back-to-back doubles by Tommy Mazar and Carter Pacchioni, and a two-run single from Francisco Ramiza. Christian Cavalieri struck out seven over 4.1 innings on the mound and added a hit at the plate.
Despite the loss, GWA battled to the end and played clean defense, with Bryce Bauman leading all players with eight chances in the field.
