In a cold, windy, and rain-soaked showdown in Jermyn, the Lakeland Chiefs powered past Dunmore 27-7 to secure the District 2 Class 2A title. The win lifts Lakeland to 11-1 and earns them a spot in the PIAA state playoffs where they will face the winner of Bristol and Lansdale Catholic.

Lakeland set the tone early behind senior quarterback David Naniewicz, who finished with 13 carries for 79 yards and two touchdowns while completing 8 of 13 passes for 86 yards and a 14-yard touchdown to Gavin Roberts. Roberts added three receptions for 20 yards and a rushing score. Sophomore Rocco Spataro provided the exclamation point with a 43-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter. Jackson Pochas was Naniewicz’s top target with five catches for 64 yards, and kicker Nicholas Janosky stayed perfect, hitting all three extra points despite the swirling wind.

The Chiefs’ defense clamped down all night, led by junior Chase Rosenkrans who picked off a pass in the second half and added key tackles in coverage. Seniors Noah Dietrich and Weston Loomis controlled the trenches, limiting Dunmore’s running lanes and forcing them to rely heavily on quarterback scrambles. Lakeland held Dunmore to just 63 passing yards and one late touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Dunmore’s offense was led by sophomore quarterback Weston Yannone, who fought through the elements with 19 carries for 87 rushing yards and 42 yards passing on 4 of 10 attempts. Senior running back Ryan Mecca scored the Bucks’ lone touchdown on a five-yard run with just over three minutes left. Senior Jack McHale and sophomore Logan Miller combined for five receptions totaling 53 yards, while senior linebacker Xavier Burke and Yannone each tallied multiple tackles on defense.
