Lakeland Alum CJ Dippre Waived by Patriots on Roster Cutdown Day **Update(1 day later CJ Signed to The Practice Squad)

Lakeland graduate and rookie tight end C.J. Dippre has been waived by the New England Patriots as the franchise trimmed its roster to the NFL’s 53-man limit.

Dippre, who signed with New England as an undrafted free agent in May after finishing his college career at Alabama, now hits the waiver wire with every team in the league having a chance to claim him. If he clears waivers, he remains a strong candidate to return to Foxborough on the Patriots’ practice squad.

Known for his physicality and in-line blocking, Dippre saw limited opportunities in the preseason, targeted twice without a reception. Still, his size and skill set could prove valuable to teams looking to add developmental depth at tight end.

New England’s depth chart already featured veterans Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper, making the climb for Dippre difficult in a crowded room.

While Tuesday’s cutdown represents a setback, the Lakeland alum’s NFL journey isn’t over. Whether it’s in New England or elsewhere, Dippre now has an opportunity to land with a club willing to invest in his upside and give him a shot to keep developing at the professional level.
