The Lake-Lehman Knights captured the District 2 Class 2A Championship with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tunkhannock last week. The decisive moment came in the 64th minute when senior Andrew Mathes found the back of the net, securing the program’s first district title since 1998 and capping off another dominant performance from a team that’s been in control all season.

The Knights entered the district final with a 21-1 record and extended their winning streak to 20 games. They controlled possession throughout the match and out-shot Tunkhannock 21-9, showing the consistency and composure that have defined their season. Before reaching the championship, Lake-Lehman posted an 8-0 semifinal win over Dunmore and a 3-0 quarterfinal victory over Scranton Prep — both performances showcasing their offensive depth and defensive discipline.

Defensively, the Knights have been anchored by senior goalkeeper Andrew Chappell, whose command of the box and composure under pressure have been the backbone of Lehman’s success. Chappell has recorded 84 saves and 14 shutouts this season, supported by a disciplined back line that has limited opponents’ scoring chances all year. That defensive energy — from first line to last — has been a defining strength for the Knights, allowing their offense to attack freely while staying organized behind the ball.

Offensively, Lake-Lehman is powered by a balanced trio: Mathes leads with 24 goals and 8 assists, Andrew Morris adds 13 goals and 3 assists, and Aiden Gallagher contributes 10 goals and 4 assists. Together, they’ve driven an attack that has outscored opponents by wide margins across both the regular season and postseason.

With the district crown secured, the Knights now turn their attention to the PIAA Class 2A State Tournament, where they’ll face Lewisburg, the District 4 champion, tonight (Tuesday, November 4) at 6:15 p.m. Lewisburg enters the matchup with one of the stingiest defenses in the state, having allowed just four goals all season.

For Lake-Lehman, it’s another opportunity to showcase the resilience, teamwork, and belief that carried them through District 2. With momentum on their side and a defense built on trust and toughness, the Knights are ready for the state stage.
